Two "Better Normal" community discussions this week: Education Upended & Federal Coronavirus Funding for State Trauma-Informed Efforts

Thursday, May 14, 2020  Education Upended, continued.

Please join us for the ongoing community discussion of "A Better Normal — Education Upended". We bring bring our focus back to the future. Using our breakout session format, we will identify the strategies and lessons learned that we want to bring into the future of school, and ways in which we might do that.

How do we create physical and psychological safety, especially in the face of so much uncertainty? What strategies can we use to create a culture of collective care? How do we implement peer support structures for youth AND adults? What might the first two weeks of school look like with an emphasis on student and adult well-being? How do we manage the transition while acknowledging our collective grief and trauma?

Our current capacity is 100 participants, so please join us on time and we will enter people until we reach capacity. These will be recorded and available on the ACEsConnection website and YouTube channel. Zoom meeting info below.

Lara Kain, ACEs In Education community manager for ACEs Connection, will lead the discussion with Emily Read Daniels, M.Ed., MBA, NCC, SEP in training, founder of HERE this NOW along with other special guests and co-hosts.

Friday, May 15, 2020 — Energizing a Trauma-Informed Response to COVID-19: Using and Advocating for Federal Funds

Federal funds are flowing to states that could be used in support of schools and other systems becoming trauma-informed and equipped to build resilience in the face of the pandemic. The National Trauma Campaign, sponsored by CTIPP, is recruiting and supporting volunteer leaders from all across the country to work locally and with Congress to ensure our nation responds to pandemic-induced adversities now and after the physical threat of COVID-19 is contained. Click here to read Anndee Hochman’s article in ACEs Connection titled “Power ofNetworks Tapped for National Trauma Campaign.”

The Campaign and its rapidly growing nationwide network has a goal of making the U.S. a trauma-informed and healing-centered society. Join this discussion to learn more about influencing the use of federal COVID-19 response funds, advocating for additional federal support of trauma-informed responses to the pandemic, and becoming a member of the National Trauma Campaign. As a voting constituent of your congressional delegation, you can make valuable contributions that can only come from one source—you!

Dan Press, Jesse Kohler and Marlo Nash, all members of the National Trauma Campaign Core Team, will be presenting. Elizabeth Prewitt, policy analyst for ACEs Connection, will host the session. Alison Cebulla, Northeast community facilitator for ACEs Connection, will moderate.
