Once San Francisco pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris learned about the ACE Study and the neurobiological effects of toxic stress on children, she had a dream to create a pediatric practice that could serve the whole child and that child's family. The dream was the Center for Youth Wellness, which provides wrap-around care for the patients and their families who visit their medical home, the CPMC Bayview Child Health Center. Today, the BayView Child Health Center and the Center for Youth Wellness are in new offices at 3450 Third Street, Bldg. 2, in San Francisco, CA.
Care begins with screening for ACEs and treating toxic stress with a variety of interventions, including home visits; working with a child's school; educating the family about toxic stress, self-regulation and nutrition; mental health services; and training in mindfulness and coping skills.
If one of the CYW staff would like to ID the folks in the photo, that would be terrific. The people I can ID are Nadine Burke Harris, front row, left, with Rebecca Grant just behind her in the red stripe top. Next to Nadine is Susanna Orsorno Crandall, and in the blue next to her is Suzy Loftus. On the far right in the last row is Latanya Hilton.
Congratulations!
