Join our Newest Interest Based Community: Addiction & Recovery

Please join us in celebrating the launch of our newest interest-based community: Addiction & Recovery! We appreciate your celebratory vibes in the form of the party cone emoji react below this blog post. 🎉

This community is open for anyone to join: https://www.pacesconnection.com...diction-and-recovery

In this community, we will explore the root causes of addiction while focusing on recovery and human resilience.

We invite you to post relevant articles, studies, resources, videos, and events in this community. For a brush-up on how to post these things, check out all our how-to guides: https://www.pacesconnection.com...directory-of-how-tos

The community managers are me, @Alison Cebulla, @Carey Sipp, a fellow Community Facilitator at ACEs Connection, and community member @Alicia Magaña.

Alicia says, "I want to share the reality of my recovery process. It's been grueling, frightening, and expansive "work." My recovery requires daily work. The daily work can include acknowledging physical pain and compassionately addressing it, accepting the life I want involves failing, reminding myself to focus on the day-to-day work, and let go of the outcome.

My Trauma-Informed training gave me a framework to compassionately acknowledge my history and understand its impact on my life and addictions. It allowed me to forgive myself and recognize I did the best I could with the knowledge and resources I had at the time. The Trauma-Informed framework set me free."
Carey says, "To me, the connection between adverse childhood experiences and addictive behaviors is as apparent as a road map guiding one over mountain ranges."
As for me, I carried around the shame that there was something wrong and defective about me for over a decade due to my hard drug addiction in my teen years. It was learning about childhood trauma at age 31 that released the shame (in a giant 4-month long puddle of tears, luckily with a warm, nurturing therapist). I wish for all addiction treatment to be trauma and ACEs science informed. It is the way to true healing!

We could use one more member as a Community Manager to dedicate 1-2 hours a month of time. Please comment if you're interested in joining us. We hope many of more of you will join this community!
