Why PFE?

Benchmark’s 4th annual Partnering For Excellence (PFE) conference, “Envisioning Resilient Communities” was held September 11th and 12th in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  To open the second day of the conference, Andrew Schrag, Regional Director of Community Operations for Partners Behavioral Health Management (Partners BHM) inspired the audience to reflect on “Why PFE” as a model to help children and their families impacted by trauma. To express this, he shared with the audience why Partners BHM and LME/MCOs alike should choose to work with projects like PFE.

So why PFE for those impacted by trauma?

“Because at Partners we believe that regardless of what happened to you or around you in the past, that trauma doesn’t have to solely define you or dictate what your life will become. It doesn’t have to dictate your behavior, your health, or your success. It doesn’t have to dictate what your future looks like.”

Why PFE as a preventative approach?

“Because Partners wanted to be part of an innovative approach of moving resources and collaborative efforts up stream so kids in foster care, who have endured trauma and chaos around them, have a chance to have happy, successful and healthy lives like the rest of us.”

Why PFE as an investment from an LME/MCO?

“Because we see PFE as just the start for creating a community that is trauma informed and resilient. We have felt the power of strong community relationships working in tandem to do great things. And because of PFE, Partners BHM has become a more trauma informed MCO.  This shift in us, has resulted being more than just an insurance company paying a bill, but part of a community expanding trauma informed projects and programs catchment wide impacting families, law enforcement, social services, health care providers and school systems”.

“This our why, may you discover your own why during this conference, if you haven’t already.”

As we reflect on the words shared by Mr. Schrag, we are encouraged to continue this important work! When all of our “Whys” join forces, we are stronger in our mission to create a lasting change in the identification and treatment of trauma.  If you would like to learn more about the Partnering for Excellence project, visit https://www.benchmarksnc.org/p...ring-for-excellence/
