What’s happening in Franklin County this Fall?

Franklin County Cares is busy around the community this Fall!

The Trauma Informed Schools Program began at South Point Elementary School in Washington and Lonedell School in Lonedell this August. Trauma Care Coordinator, Emily Thoenen, will be working with both schools to provide trauma education for staff, children, and parents; and staff consultations and group therapy for students who have experienced trauma. The goal of this program is to assist children, staff, and families to develop appropriate trauma informed interventions and plans for children who are struggling to improve their abilities to be successful and learn while at school. St. Clair School District will begin this paradigm shift in January 2019 with their two Elementary Schools, Edgar Murray and St. Clair Elementary. We are excited to get started!

FCC will be hosting two Community Trauma trainings this Fall. The first will be held on Thursday, September 13th from 6-8pm at Lonedell School. The second will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 9-11 at the LFCS office in Union. An additional Community training will be hosted in Washington and details will soon be provided. All Community trainings will require RSVPs in order to provide food, drinks, and childcare.

Trauma Care Coordinator, Emily Thoenen will also be providing Trauma Training to two Child Welfare agencies in Franklin County this fall. The SB40 Board will be receiving Trauma training focusing on individuals who have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in September. The Franklin County Juvenile Office has signed on to receive a 16 hour training in October to further their understanding of trauma and how it effects our children and families. Their training will also include a training focusing on how trauma and delinquent behaviors are related.

FCC has several committee members trained to provide Trauma 101 trainings to community groups and agencies in 20 minute - 2 hour lengths. If you know of an agency or group that would benefit from this training contact, Emily Thoenen at 314-808-3997.
