Martin Luther King’s words resonate at a much deeper level during these times of uncertainty. The outbreak is compelling us to face our codependence.
Fortunately, the virus seems to be sparing the young and the healthy. We would be in a much darker place if collectively we were worried about our children’s risk of dying. In some way, the people who have the lowest risk of getting seriously ill hold in their hands the fate of the most vulnerable.
For the majority of us, we are probably looking at a couple of weeks of challenging times to different degrees. However for the families who will endure the worst, losing a loved one can be the greatest pain of anyone's life. We are obligated to care for one another more than ever before. Thankfully, the great majority of families will not have to experience the worst.
The mortality rate is directly connected to each of us understanding and believing that; my behavior impacts you and your behavior impacts me.
The people I accompany through my work prove over and over again that something very good can come from something very bad. Connecting and living by MLK’s words beyond this crisis is an opportunity to make our world a better place. All we have to do is take care of one another.
