VISITOR'S DAY Highlights Path To Healing From Trauma

In the wake of the decision our country made earlier this week, we may all be feeling traumatized. It is in these moments we ask, how do we heal? How do we take care of our children?

Nicole Opper's latest film, Visitor's Day, set in Puebla, Mexico, demonstrates how healing can happen when caring adults hold an intentional space of love and community for boys who have suffered from abuse and neglect.

A coming of age story, the film follows 16 year old runaway Juan Carlos, who is working to overcome the trauma of neglect by his father. At a unique group home for boys he undergoes counseling, bonds with his new brothers, and gathers the courage to forgive his father, face to face. To me, this is a film about restorative justice and the power of forgiveness. It is about all the ways we honor the families we come from, and create the families that truly nurture us. The Huffington Post thinks so, too.

If this sounds like exactly what you need right now, and you just happen to be in the New York area, today is your day! The film will screen on November 14th and 15th as apart of the DOC NYC film festival and tickets are still available: http://www.docnyc.net/film/visitors-day/

Sending hope, love and kindness your way,
