Virtual premiere of From the Ashes: Nov 6

Bay Area nonprofit, Supporting Mamas, is proud to co-host the premiere of From the Ashes, a personal film from Theresa Fortune about her own journey with postpartum depression. The premiere will feature a panel of mental health experts exploring the inequities of maternal mental healthcare faced by women of color.

From the Ashes is a multidisciplinary narrative of a black woman’s journey through postpartum depression and towards spiritual rebirth. Through the use of photography, video sequences, sound design, and dance, From the Ashes brings forth the gritty reality of the day to day sacrifices that women make that often leads to loss of self, and potentially, loss of life.

From the Ashes seeks to help heal some of the trauma that has plagued generations of African-Americans and women.

“Systemic racism is the number one factor that impacts health inequity in America today, and disproportionally affects the mental health of Black mothers. Suicide and serious mental illness among the Black community is a growing public health crisis that is largely being ignored.”— Cheryl Hart, Executive Director of Supporting Mamas

The event takes place this Saturday, November 6 from 6 to 8pm and will be held virtually. It is free to attend, but registration is required.
