"Child abuse costs an individual, family and community beyond more than can be imagined – and understanding how to conquer the problem appears to be a gigantic hurdle across Indian Country, according to Dr. Arne Graff, a family physician and trained medical doctor in child abuse pediatrics.
"Dr. Graff held a workshop on “Sexual Trauma in Children” at the 3rd Annual Hope Conference in Billings covering uncut medical information and understanding to the group about the cost and damage of child sexual abuse.
"In Graff’s presentation he stated that 3.5 million child abuse cases are reported in the United States, and ten percent are sexual abuse cases. However, 95 percent of sexual abuse victims have experienced physical abuse.
"The incident of child maltreatment in Native children is 19 percent, and 10 percent in non-Native children in the U.S....
