Trauma Super Spreaders?

We’ve become familiar with the term super spreader.  An event can be a COVID-19 super spreader.  People can be COVID-19 super spreaders.

I think certain people can create trauma super spreaders.

Especially, people who don’t engage in parenting behaviors and practices generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children.

For example... if parents excuse or make excuses for their child’s poor behavior.

Or if they don’t allow their children to experience the logical consequences of their actions.

Or if they lie for their children.

Or if they often bribe their children.

Or if they don’t set boundaries and have consequences.

Kids raised like this can become trauma super spreaders.  I have no evidence to support my suppositions, but I’ve lived a long time and seen a lot and when I think about Brian Laundrie and Ethan Crumbley I can’t help but put two and two together.

Parents’ actions can have devastating consequences.  Gabby’s mom and dad will never see her again, and I can’t imagine the suffering and trauma the parents of Crumbley’s victims are enduring.  Plus, every student and educator in that school is probably numb with trauma.

I have a cherished daughter who is a teacher and two precious granddaughters who will one day be high school students.  I live in constant fear that a trauma super spreader will take them away from me.

I don’t want that to happen!  I don’t want parents creating more trauma super spreaders!  I want parents to engage in parenting behaviors and practices generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children!

There’s only one solution...parenting education.  Not conventional parenting education, but a new kind that reaches everyone, everywhere!
