Trauma-Informed Medicine E-Cases: Call for Physician and Psychologist/Behavioral Scientist Authors

The purpose of the Trauma-Informed Medicine E-Cases (TIMe) Initiative is to produce and implement a comprehensive set of online, interactive clinical cases for physicians and other healthcare providers. These cases focus on the prevalence, consequences, and impact of trauma, and how healthcare practitioners can provide trauma-informed care for diverse populations. The cases have been created to help providers acquire the knowledge and skills required to interact effectively with patients, particularly women and girls with histories of trauma, both disclosed and undisclosed, in a way that promotes the patient-provider relationship, improves patient engagement in care, and prevents re-traumatization. Continuing medical education credits will be offered.

The TIMe Initiative is a collaboration between the U.S. Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health and MedU.

TIMe’s first cases were completed in the fall of 2015 and new cases are planned through 2017. We are now seeking Physician Case Authors (MD or DO) and Psychologist/ Behavioral Scientist Case Authors (psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and mental health clinicians) for 2016. We are specifically looking for individuals with:

  • interest, experience, and expertise in trauma-informed care in the clinical setting
  • experience authoring educational case-based scenarios using reputable literature OR a willingness to be trained by the leadership team in this area and
  • the time and interest to devote to this project

The Case Author will commit to approximately a total of 60+ hours during the months of February-June (training, conducting literature review, writing, revising, and finalizing cases), as well as an additional estimated total of 20 hours of work during the months of June-September. There will be the pairing of a physician co-author with a psychologist/behavioral scientist co-author. There will be a required two-day Case Author meeting in Chicago from April 11-12, 2016, participation in subsequent post-meeting conference calls, and the performance of any and all independent work to finalize the case by September 2016. In return, there will be the acknowledgement as a Case Author and an honorarium in the amount of $1,000. All travel expenses will be paid.

The time frame for this project is now through September 2016. Anyone who is interested is asked to please send a CV and a written work product (article, book chapter, etc.). All inquiries and applications should be made to Nancy Tobi, MedU Senior Project Manager and Lead Instructional Designer, at nancy.tobi@med-u.org.
