Three things to know about how childhood trauma impacts adults [DNJ.com]

 

If there was one thing the community could do to reduce the rates of alcoholism, depression, cancer, heart attacks, teen pregnancy, child abuse and neighborhood violence, what can Rutherford County do to prevent it?

That was the main question asked by Murfreesboro attorney Christy Sigler at Tuesday night’s League of Women Voters meeting.

Her answer was to reduce the impact of adverse childhood experiences in all children, said Sigler, who works as an attorney in Rutherford County Juvenile Court and as an advocate of victims of abuse and neglect.

“Children are Tennessee’s most precious assets,” she said. “Communities have a responsibility to sustain nurture and protect children; parents can’t do it alone.”
