The elephants in the room....

Since I am feeling a bit inspired by a Martin Luther King speech I heard yesterday where he said "The time has come for America to hear the truth..." I will say a few more things which I am sure most people don't want to hear.

Hell.

Let's start with that.

I did a search on acesconnection.com for "hell" and I found, as I suspected, no one has mentioned that teaching children about the concept of hell just might be traumatic.

That would probably not be politically correct. But since I am not too worried about being politically correct, and since I have been thinking about killing myself, partly because all the things I have not yet purged from my brain by writing about them to my satisfaction, I will go ahead and keep writing.

Religion.

The Christian religion,

The Jewish religion. Some of the biggest influences on the American culture.

Punishment and rewards. Behavior modification.

I watched a video by a woman, who seems to be quite a nice person with good intentions, giving a class to single parents - Christian parents. She told them she didn't like point systems, bribes and behavior modification. But she misses the fact that heaven and hell are simply a punishment and reward behavior modification system. IE she misses the elephant.

Another elephant is simply the American culture itself. I don't think many people want to admit that it is possible that the American culture itself might be causing trauma. People at Aces are getting the connection between trauma and it's consequences, but so far, from what I have read, and I have not read everything, I admit, they don't seem to be understanding the causes of trauma in as much detail as I believe is necessary for both prevention and healing.

Many people here will agree that abuse causes trauma, But what causes abuse? Obviously, previous abuse and trauma. But where is all this coming from?

I believe it is inherent in the entire system not only in America, England, Canada etc, but in the world. A system of treating children like property, possesions. and slaves. A system of age discrimination which gives only certain legal "rights" to those of a certain age. A system which gives itself huge legal power to control the lives of children and teenagers by controlling who they live with, who they associate with, which country they live in, and what they do with their time. Think of compulsory school and the so called "run away" laws, for example.

Few people anywhere in any country I have been to, approximately 60 now, question these laws. They have become taken for granted for so long they go unnoticed, like the elephant in the room.

But I will say that I believe that first, children don't ever need to be forced or "compulsed" to learn. It comes naturally. Very naturally.

Second, no child wants to run away from good parents. It is a myth that children will run away if they don't get the flavor of ice cream they want. This kind of thinking is an insult to their, and my, intelligence.

So why do we need laws, backed up by force and violence if necessary, to make children and teens go to schools and live with their parents?

I encourage people here at Aces to begin talking about these "elephants" now.
