In 24 hours, more than 6 million people have watched a woman get harassed on the streets of New York City.
You probably know the video we're talking about. It's this one, in which a woman is filmed for 10 hours walking around New York City and experiences more than 100 instances of catcalling, unsolicited compliments, whistles, leers and general harassment.
A viral video goes viral for a reason ā it captures a harsh reality in a sharp, cutting way. And often, it takes a great deal of planning and expertise to execute.
In this PSA, created by marketing agency Rob Bliss Creative for the nonprofit Hollaback, a young woman named Shoshana B. Roberts walks around different neighborhoods of the city, silently looking straight ahead the entire time as various men shout at her. Some yelled catcalls, some shouted for her to "smile" or flat-out followed her for several blocks as she was being filmed and aggressively try to engage her in conversation. Still others, when they don't get any response, angrily shout at Roberts to acknowledge them.
