The Best Defense Against a Hurricane is Community (CityLab) + Update from Wilmington, NC

An update from Wilmington:

Our resilience is showing.  We are just beginning the clean up and recovery from Florence, and the effects of the storm will be with us for the foreseeable future.  Look around an notice our resilience!  Neighbors are checking on one another, organizations are delivering emergency supplies, and people are sharing hot meals prepared and donated by volunteers.  We will get through this.

Mebane:

Thank you for taking the time to update us. Please continue to do so long after headlines change. Unfortunately, other communities will deal with widespread loss, displacement, and hardship. We can all learn from each other what does and doesnā€™t help, what is and isnā€™t needed.

Iā€™m sorry you are all going through so much! Iā€™m glad the community is rallying.

Mebane,
Thanks so much for sharing how hurricane Florence impacted your communities.
When fires gripped our area nearly a year ago - the outpouring of love and support for neighbors and strangers alike was aw-inspiring.  Having a traumatic shared experience of this scale cuts across all boundaries and folks come together to offer support and accept assistance.
As a result of the local fires, Sonoma County ACEs Connection adapted their site to include "Fire Resiliency Resources".
