The art of forgiveness [Chron.com]

The paintings of boys brushed with the colors of childhood, blue jeans and red cheeks, decorate the living room at Wild Rose Farm.

Two portraits, one of J.T. Lewis and one of his little brother, Jesse, hang above the piano. Another canvas, this one with the boys snuggled like pretzels, looks over the fireplace.

“I’ve painted my boys every year,” Scarlett Lewis says, taking inventory of her gallery. “Well, almost every year.”

Jesse Lewis was supposed to turn 9 years old Tuesday. He was supposed to lean over a sheet cake and blow out his candles until the flames were replaced by applause.

Instead, it’s been 2 ½ years since Jesse Lewis, along with 19 other first-graders and six educators, was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
