Texas Town Calls On Many Voices To Aid In Battle Against Child Abuse

New Braunfels, Texas -- With National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month as a backdrop, a local organization gathered many different voices in one room Wednesday to discuss ways to create lasting solutions for battling the effects of child abuse.

The free Childhood Trauma Forum from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the McKenna Events Center offered participants knowledge about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how measuring them could reveal quantitative data to help alleviate abuse and its effects, said Chandler Gray, a community project director with Southwest Venture Philanthropy, the forum’s sponsor.

Gray said she once heard and agrees with the idea that ACEs data should become as important to child health screening as height, weight and blood pressure measurements.

“We need to educate our community on the importance of that ACE data,” she said. “We invited a couple hundred people from our community and Central Texas who are the thought leaders, government leaders, school leaders, faith leaders, (etc.).”
