TED Podcast on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

It's always interesting to read a story or hear a conversation talking about trauma-informed principles without ever using the terms. It makes me think about how the conversation could be elevated if trauma-informed care was factored into the discussion and, conversely, how these cross-discipline conversations can inform how we communicate trauma-informed care beyond our network.

This podcast by TED Radio Hour speaks on the development of Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs and the current research on physiological wellbeing, security, and resilience and their impact on human development. It could be beneficial to use Maslow's pyramid to break down elements of trauma-informed care and the resources needed to overcome trauma. Definitely a recommended listen!

I haven't yet listened to this, so it may be addressed, but I had to share this other TED talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNhk3owF7RQ.

This one is by Matthew Lieberman. He wrote the book "Social." He states bluntly that Maslow was wrong. Social connection is also a basic need, right up there with food and shelter.

Recognizing how deeply social we are, that without social connection we don't exist, is a profound statement and has very deep implications for the way we think about trauma.
