Supporting Skagit County (WA) Families in Need

Founders of the Diaper Bank of Skagit County celebrate the adoption of their project by the United Way of Skagit County.

On July 1st,2021 the United Way of Skagit County became the new home of the Diaper Bank of Skagit County.  Founded by retired community members Calista and Dean Scott, the Diaper Bank is a Certified Diaper Bank Member of the National Diaper Bank Network, and one of more than 200 diaper banks across the nation and 8 in WA. DBSC became a non-profit in 2018 and reached a milestone in March 2021, having provided a half-million diapers to families and children in Skagit County.

  • A Diaper Bank collects diapers and cash donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and other sources for the bulk purchase and distribution of diapers to one in three families in the United States who struggle to afford enough diapers to keep their babies and small children clean, dry, and healthy.

United Way is ready! United Way believes in healthy, stable families, safe neighborhoods, and successful children. Collaborating with the Children’s Council of Skagit County, the United Way helps lead a community-wide campaign on the importance of early childhood development and the critical role of the caregiver. Through their Welcome Baby program, United Way greets newborns and parents who deliver at Skagit Valley Hospital, answers questions and connects them to resources.  And whereas Jack P. Shonkoff, M.D., Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, states early childhood policy must be about the foundations of both lifelong health and readiness to succeed in school, the United Way’s bold goal is that by 2021 all children entering kindergarten programs throughout Skagit County will be ready to learn.

Congratulations, @Calista Scott - great work aligning efforts!

The Children's Council of Skagit County (next meeting is Sept 8, 2021 via Zoom) might want to collaborate and share their meeting information, newsletter, and other information on the PACEs Connection community: Supporting Skagit County Families in Need?

What a great opportunity to coordinate with others in Skagit County (WA)!!

Yea, you!!
