Support Post-Traumatic Stress Awareness Month

I'm grateful for the awareness on post traumatic stress - but I hope someday they drop "disorder" from the language and use "injury" or some other word - just feels stigmatizing, like we are defective and lends credence to the stigma & discrimination we face when trying to heal from things that were done to us, experienced or that we observed.

Take care, Michael.

That is the truth, Michael!

It really doesn’t seem fair to think of ourselves as having a β€œdisorder” when what we have is an injury.

The blame and shame of having a disorder is unwarranted, yet it continues to damage the very people who need the love and understanding the most. We all need to drop the blame, shame, guilt, fear. We are not bad. What happened to us is/was bad.

As it has been written on this website many times, in many posts as several presentations, β€œChildren didn’t cause what happened to them. It was not their fault. They did the best they could given the situation. They can heal!”

I said β€œthey” and β€œtheir” but know I am including β€œus” and β€œour” and β€œwe.” And I am grateful for having learned these  invaluable lessons here at PACEs Connection, where having a strengths-based approach and a growth mindset is a cultural norm we work to extend to the world.

Peace and thank you,

Carey
