Suicide, psychiatric hospitalization increase among Wisconsin youths, beat national average [badgerherald.com]

report from the Wisconsin Office of Children’s Mental Health revealed suicide rates among young people in Wisconsin have doubled from 2007-15 and continue to rise above the national average.

Nationally, the 2015 rate of suicide among teens aged 15 to 19 was almost 10 per 100,000. Wisconsin’s rate was nearly 12 per 100,000.

Self-harm hospitalizations for those under 18-years-old in Wisconsin have also increased since 2011 — especially among females — as have the number of students receiving community or outpatient mental health services through Medicaid.

Are increased screenings generating increased thinking of the questions around suicide and toxic stress?  My experience is that the more we set children's minds around traumatic issues without increasing activities of creativity, play, and improved quality in social settings, the more oppression and thoughts of toxic stress set in. Improving the environment by using our 5 senses, and incorporating things that produce life, and growth, just like producing soil that is favorable to plant growth is the critical thinking that we tend to ignore while making a Trauma Informed environment. In my work, we call this a holding environment. So kids don't fall without having anything to catch them.  "Watch over me, while supporting my exploration" The Circle of Security, and SAMHSA's 8 Dimensions of wellness should be taught instead of diversity, and inclusion.  We are teaching division far more than unity. In addition, Pornography, and Social media should be declared a health crisis. Apple has been informing its customers to set their phones to gray scale in order to relax a persons nervous system from the stress of over stimulation. If technology was the root cause of your child's death, how would you feel about social media being allowed in every school and every place on the planet. Get away and live friends. Life is too short to be addicted to our phones while our communities need us to invest our time.
