America’s Truth: Documentary Bridges History, Community, and Policy for Change

The Center for Community Resilience at George Washington University is pleased to announce the release of America’s Truth, a documentary that tells the truth about how structural racism harmed four Black communities in Cincinnati. Today's inequities — across race, gender, and class — result from centuries of policies and practices meant to create and sustain social hierarchy. To move forward toward an equitable future, we must reckon with this truth. Stream the film for free starting June 14, and download the discussion guide to start a conversation on Truth in your community: https://go.gwu.edu/americastruth.

I highly recommend this excellent documentary! It is stunning the communities disrupted, talent not given its due, resources wasted, beautiful relationships not given support to flourish. Many lessons can be learned from what was not held sacred and destroyed out of greed.

Thank you for teaching us about Cincinnati, which is, in fact, almost every city and town in this country.

I haven’t downloaded the guide, but will. I watched the discussion following the premiere of the documentary and it was telling, terrific.

This is all a gift, a documenting, a cautionary tale. I am going to watch again for the solutions. I believe I was so stunned by the losses, I am going to revisit it, the wonderful conversation with the family of four brothers and sisters and watch for the solutions this time.

On reflection, I may not remember as much about solutions because I was triggered and so angry about the ripping up and ripping off of communities.
