Specialist care helps develop relationship between mothers with severe mental illness and their newborn children

"The formation of the first relationship between a mother and baby is key in the development of the child's attachment relationships.  This study shows the importance of providing specialist support for new when they are suffering from severe (schizophrenia, major depressive disorders  with or without psychosis, bipolar illness), necessitating in-patient admission...."
