Six Iowa communities selected for program to stem childhood trauma

"Results from an Iowa Department of Public Health study released this week found that 55 percent of the state’s adults have lived through at least one adverse early childhood experience, or ACE.

"Data shows such early trauma puts individuals at a greater risk for poor physical and mental health later in life.

"Through a project sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Iowa, representatives from Dallas, Henry, Jones, Linn, Pottawattamie and Scott counties will work to increase public awareness and action regarding ACEs and their effect on children.

"The initiative is one of several efforts planned over the next year in response to the ACE study.
