Shifting the Culture in Organizations - A New Webinar Series

Over the past year since leaving an administrative position in healthcare as a Trauma Informed Administrator to launch as a full time consultant and advocate, I've been educating professionals around the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences, Positive Childhood Experiences, and in using a Trauma Informed Approach to service delivery.  In my journey, I've encountered two wonderful surprises.  Along with the joys of training professionals such as childcare leaders in two states; police officers in West Virginia and across Tennessee; university students, social workers and youth camp leaders in Lithuania; educational staff members from school districts in Tennessee and Virginia; and staff and house parents of a historic children's home (to name a few); it has been exceptionally rewarding at the number of professionals doing this work, getting results and inspiring real change, who have sought me out to partner together in some way and establish a friendship.  A second surprising observation, is how a growing number of professionals now at least have heard of ACEs but desire tools to take the next steps to implement a trauma informed approach into their service delivery and for this they seek me out to help.

Though I've been doing work around this topic since 2014, I had no idea until this past year, the dedicated professionals quietly and tirelessly working to overcome system barriers and shift the culture in their organization, cities, states, or court system in order to create more resilient communities.  Certainly the ones who have reached out to me wanting to connect, only represent a small sampling of the countless more like them.  I constantly hear inspiring stories through my role on the strategy team of the CTIPP National Trauma Campaign and by participating in the PACEs Connections regional webinars and Better Normal series.

One day while riding my bike on the trail I remembered thinking when I co-pioneered the Northeast Tennessee ACEs Community how I felt like I was "building the car while driving it!"  If they would have been available at the time, I would have welcomed attending an event where leaders and subject matter experts such as these could have shared their wisdom with me in bite-sized reusable steps.  These are also the kinds of requests I now receive from professionals wanting my assistance from around the world.  People are wanting the nuts and bolts of becoming practitioners.  I also reflected how when I worked for a three state healthcare system to plan a large ACEs conference, I would have welcomed knowing of individuals such as these in order to utilize them as conference and workshop speakers.  Remember the common denominators for this group in my mind is…experience and results.

So, simply put, this is how the idea for hosting this webinar series Shifting the Culture through my BeckyHaas.com brand was born.  I'm excited now to announce in the coming months I'll be sharing details and registration links for professionals and community leaders to join a paid, limited seating event where you will hear from me and other "transformers" in this field who have achieved authentic results in shifting the culture.  The goal of this series is to provide a blueprint for change that may serve to accelerate the work you currently are doing to create a resilient community or organization.  For less than the price of a concert ticket or good meal with a friend ($59.00), I invite you to join these learning events.  Each two-hour virtual event will feature experts from various professionals sectors who are Shifting the Culture in some way.  They are moving a community or organization from being trauma aware to progressing in the journey to become trauma informed.   All participants of the event will later receive access to the recorded webinar and copies of all the slides used during the presentation.

The first event, Shifting the Culture in Organizations will be held on Tuesday, August 24 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. (EST) and will feature my friend, Chuck Price.  Chuck is the Founder and CEO of Blue Collar Consulting LLC.  Before I ever knew Chuck, I regularly referred people to read about the amazing work he had accomplished creating a trauma informed environment at DHHS in Waupaca County, Wisconsin while he was serving as the Director.  Chuck and the team he led in that county were selected as one of five jurisdictions in the U.S. to participate in a 3-year Innovation Cohort. This resulted in a 12% overall decrease of youth in foster care, and a 37% average decrease in youth in residential facilities. Recognition of Chuck’s leadership didn’t stop there — from 2016-2018 he was elected by his peers to serve as the President of the Wisconsin County Human Services Association. During Chuck’s tenure as President, he led the association through an Organizational Effectiveness (OE) process focused on the Association’s infrastructure and leadership development for Directors statewide.
