Dear President Biden,

Please consider Dr. Vincent Felitti and Dr. Robert Anda, co-authors of the Kaiser Permanente/CDC Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, for the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Medal of Honor. They had the foresight to connect adverse childhood experiences with poor health outcomes. The ACE Study and its follow-ups are perhaps the most consequential body of epidemiological research.

I agree. This landmark study cracked the wall of shame and ignorance by defining a preventable cause of mental and physical illness as well as social dysfunction. Even now, 25 years later, the medical and behavioral sciences, as well as politicians, have yet to fully appreciate or understand how important and beneficial it would be for both individuals and society to prevent family violence and child abuse and neglect.
