Resilience projects at Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, WA

The Children’s Resilience Initiative in Walla Walla, WA, celebrates another year of building resilience in Lincoln High School's students and staff.

A generous grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supported several projects for the general population of students and teens parenting a child. These projects included:

  • a daily class dedicated to child development and life skills through the lens of ACEs and resilience,
  • an after-school Tot Spot group,
  • and hearing personal stories of resilience from 30 community guests who spoke to health and physical education students.

In addition, students entered two creative art contests to portray their perceptions of resilience. A calendar featuring their images is in production. And the intrepid filmmakers from the school's film club are creating a music video for the CRI “Hope and Healing" song created by CRI co-founder Mark Brown.

Three video clips provide a glimpse of how students progressed this school year through the eyes of three teachers.

Catherine Wolpert taught the user-friendly life skills class.

Shelly Phipps supported teen parents through the after-school group.

Maggie Yount poignantly summarizes student response to the community guest/health class.
