Reflecting on a Successful Trauma Informed Care Summit: Igniting Hope and Healing Together

[Houston, TX] - The Trauma Informed Care Summit organized by the Texas Association of Community Health Centers (TACHC) held at The Westin Houston Medical Center on June 30th, 2023 brought together a vibrant community of change-makers and advocates, resulting in a transformative event that surpassed all expectations. With active audience participation, the summit witnessed 88 attendees from 45 different organizations, reflecting the diversity of perspectives and expertise dedicated to advancing trauma informed care (TIC) across Texas and beyond.

A Community United:

The heart of the TIC Summit lay in the collaboration and shared commitment among the participants. Hailing from 45 different organizations, the audience represented a broad spectrum of healthcare providers, social service agencies, educators, and community-based organizations. Among them were 21 federally qualified health centers, 1 Primary Care Association, and 1 National Training and Technical Assistance Partner (NTTAP), each playing a crucial role in the advancement of trauma informed care.

Engaging Dialogues and Cross-Sector Collaboration:

Throughout the summit, attendees actively participated in engaging dialogues, sharing their experiences, challenges, and successes in implementing TIC within their respective organizations. The cross-sector collaboration enriched the discussions, allowing for the exchange of best practices and innovative ideas that can shape a trauma informed culture across diverse fields.

The Power of Shared Stories and Data:

The summit provided a platform for health center stories and data to take center stage. The real-life experiences shared by Hope Health (Waxahachie, TX) and TACHC’s very own TIC Program highlighted the profound impact of trauma informed care on individuals, families, and communities. This powerful storytelling served as a reminder of the significance of TIC in fostering healing and resilience.

Empowered for Future Endeavors:

The overwhelming sense of community and shared purpose at the TIC Summit empowered participants to return to their organizations with renewed determination. Engaging discussions with leaders in the field, and networking opportunities will undoubtedly shape their future endeavors to promote trauma informed care.

This is a terrific post about incredibly important work that is improving lives and healthcare for patients and caregivers alike

Congratulations, Anielia, Aimee, the Texas Association of Community Health Centers, your sponsors (including our friends at St. David’s Foundation) and all involved in the work over the years! Congratulations on the work to plan and host this conference, and the fact that you’ve likely touched almost 600,000 lives with trauma-informed care, and the lives of more than 5,400 caregivers.

This is a Texas-sized positive impact, and is so worthy of celebration and sharing!
