Public School Review Diversity Report: Which States Have the Most Diverse Public Schools? [PublicSchoolReview.com]

American public schools have made tremendous progress since the Supreme Court declared school segregationunconstitutional in Brown v. Board of Education. Schools throughout the nation are more diverse than ever before as a result of desegregation, immigration of people to this country, and emigration of citizens from one region of the nation to another. Sixty years after the Supreme Court’s decision, schools in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and other southern states where segregation was once so prominent have shown great gains in diversity.

But which states have the most diverse public school campuses? We collected data and analyzed the numbers to develop an original list illustrating how much diversity truly exists in each state’s public schools.

In my undergraduate "14th Amendment and Legal Advocacy" class, we were reading Richard Kluger's book: "Simple Justice" [a history of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's strategy leading up to Brown vs. the Board of Education]. One of my classmates was a [then] 65 year old Black male who grew up in Prince George's County, Maryland [one of the defendant counties in the Brown vs. Bd. of Educ. case]. Every time 'Colonel P...' raised his hand to speak, our [Ph. D. history candidate] professor would cease standing, and take a seat in the chair by his desk, until 'Colonel P...' had finished his question or comment. I found Colonel P enhanced my understanding immensely.
