Presenter to Plainfield teachers: External factors impact child's learning

PLAINFIELD (CT) - While some students are concerned about the right answer on a test or making the basketball team, other students deal with more pressing stressors including a parent in prison or a family member addicted to drugs.


 It’s these external factors, called adverse childhood experiences, Amy Kennedy said Monday, that can change how a student’s brain develops and how they learn.


More than 300 teachers, administrators and school staff of the Plainfield School District packed into Plainfield High School's auditorium Monday morning where they learned about adverse childhood experiences from Kennedy, education director for the Kennedy Forum.
