Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Preferably, 2 years experience working promoting, training and advocating for the implementation of trauma-informed care in mental health, substance abuse and/or human services settings, or implementing a trauma-informed care system in a human services agency or related setting. Additional experience working with victims of violence and trauma in mental health, substance abuse and/or human services settings a plus.
Principal duties:
Under the terms of a contractual agreement, this position is located in the Bureau of Prevention Treatment and Recovery (BPTR) in the Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS) in the Department of Health Services (DHS) and is under the operational supervision of the Integrated Services Section Chief. This position is responsible for serving as the BPTR expert on Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and the planning, development and implementation of trauma-informed care within the Bureau's MH/SA system transformation efforts across the lifespan. TIC training and technical assistance (TA) are instrumental in the Bureau's system transformation efforts because trauma-informed programs, services, and organizations are based on an understanding of the vulnerabilities or triggers of trauma survivors that traditional service delivery approaches may exacerbate and the necessary provision of services and programs that are supportive and avoid re-traumatization. The Bureau will include TIC within all areas of system transformation and within each its three Sections. This position will assist all Bureau sections to learn, understand and to assure that programs and statewide initiatives are trauma informed and utilize trauma informed best practice in all training and technical assistance. In addition, this position will assist the Children, Youth and Families Unit in analyzing and providing training and technical TA to organizations regarding use of seclusion and restraint.
