A film describing the “toxin” of childhood trauma and stress will be shown at an area theater next week.

The Community Learning Center at Pinckney will host a screening of the film “Paper Tigers” at the Sunrise Theater on Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.

Produced by filmmaker James Redford, the son of Robert Redford, the film contains “an intimate look into the lives of selected students at Lincoln High School, an alternative school that specializes in educating traumatized youth.”

Shaun Krencicki, principal at the CLC, learned about a study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention study on childhood trauma called Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACES. From there, he became familiar with the struggles at Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, Wash., where the principal, Jim Sporleder, had used the ACES study and other brain research to make significant improvements to the school’s discipline outcomes. Paper Tigers focuses on Sporleder’s efforts at change.
