Pennsylvania committee passes child abuse reporting bill

"A bill to protect child abuse reporters from facing workplace discrimination has cleared its first hurdle in the Pennsylvania  legislature.

"House Bill 429 was unanimously approved by the House Children and Youth Committee and sent to the full House of Representatives for consideration.

"The measure would expand protection from legally defined mandated reporters to those who may not be clearly identified as a mandated reporter by law, according to its sponsor, Rep. Louise Williams Bishop, D-Philadelphia.

"Anyone who suspects child abuse and makes a good faith report would  be protected from being penalized though compensation, advancement, or any  other privileges of employment...."
