NY Times Discusses Toxic Stress in Children

David Bornstein's article in the November 3, 2013 NY Times is a call for action to prevent toxic stress in young children. A longer, more detailed discussion appears in his blog post at www.nytimes.com/opinionator. The blog post references the ACE study and includes a discussion of work being done through the Child First program in Connecticut.

Last Sunday (October 27, 2013) the Times featured a similar article by Nicholas Kristof. It calls for early intervention programs that offer support to at-risk parents during pregnancy and throughout their children's infancy.

Both authors offer cogent arguments for the need to build the reflective capacity of parents as an important step in reducing child maltreatment.

Always great to see ACEs and prevention of toxic stress in children in the pages of the NY Times!  I wonder if anyone who has charge over Maryland politics and social systems read it?  I am desperate to gain the attention of someone who can help change the way our governmental systems view childhood maltreatment.  Even Virginia seems to "get it"! But Maryland (lots of Democratic minds, and a well-educated workforce) seems to be allergic to this concept.  Help!!! Brenda
