The Oxnard mother of a murdered son and eight others will be honored next week for their work in the county’s juvenile justice system.

Julia Campos, a member of the Ventura County chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, has spoken to grieving families, offering them support and guidance as they navigate life after losing a child. Campos’ son, Daniel, 21, was shot to death in April 2004 by an Oxnard gang member, officials said.

She has worked with the Ventura County Probation Agency to speak with at-risk youth about the effects of their actions and also will be honored for her monthly violence prevention classes for youth offenders and those on probation at the county’s Juvenile Justice Facility in Oxnard, the agency said.
