Research shows that one in 28 children have a parent in jail.

It's a growing problem in the Roanoke Valley, and that's why Family Service of Roanoke Valley is starting a support group called, What About Me next month for middle school- aged children of incarcerated parents.

Experts say these children can experience a variety of issues and conditions, including poor health, ADD, ADHD, learning disabilities and developmental delays.

Having a parent in jail is also now recognized as an "adverse childhood experience," or ACE.
