New Iowa ACEs Report!

The Central Iowa ACEs Coalition has just released a four-page executive summary sharing some initial findings from analyzing three years of ACEs data (2012-2014). The report is centered around hope and resiliency with a focus on opportunities to respond to the ACEs findings. The report also features a story of how little nudges along the way helped a mother find a new path for her future.

View the executive summary here. View other resources on our Iowa ACEs 360 website.

The four-page report will be a useful tool during upcoming advocacy days at the state capitol and for groups wanting to quickly share Iowa ACEs research. A complete report will be updated this spring.

Thank you for your comments! We actually have a few great examples of partnership with the pediatric world in Iowa. One is the 1st Five Healthy Development Initiative, which supports health providers in the earlier detection of social-emotional and developmental delays and family risk-related factors in children birth to 5 by coordinating referrals, interventions, and follow-up with public and community services. The statewide expansion of this is a major priority for our ACEs coalition.

An emerging partnership between our state AAP chapter and ACEs coalition is looking to develop a best practice guide for pediatricians and family care providers and provide training and consultation for implementation of best practices. We hope to have more information later this year to share about this emerging work!

For me...the data does a great job of showing the trauma...yet, until we convince the Pediatric world...perhaps mandatory...that ALL parents be required to take the ACE Test at pre and post natal...like the Portland, OR,  group...aren't we just keeping score of the sadness and tragedy.  The longer we wait...the more we guarantee that pain will be the legacy we pass on.  There is no other place that offers that immediate an opportunity to change the future for the new and unborn child.  I will speak about this anywhere I can.  It's time to come out of the shadows.  Does anyone know any hospitals or groups moving in this direction?  Or do we still have medical blindness?

I am ready to address all of this to high schools, colleges and parents with my son Jared...and am just about done with NoACEs.CLUB where kids and parents can go and take the first step to healing by telling their story OUT LOUD. Shouldn't we all be ONE family?   If we don't have a goal of No ACEs...aren't we just keeping score?          The Greatful Dad.
