New CME course explores care of children affected by toxic stress, violence [AAPNews.AAPPublications.org]

graphic-1Current science on how toxic stress affects your patients’ health is the focus of a new course called Violence, Abuse and Toxic Stress in Pediatrics: An Update on Trauma-Informed Care in Children and Youth. The course will be held July 30-Aug. 2 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco.

Co-sponsored by the AAP Section on Child Abuse and Neglect, the Section on Adolescent Health, and the Council on Foster Care, Adoption and Kinship Care, the course helps health care providers identify children who have experienced adversity and toxic stress. Sessions offer an understanding of trauma, presentation and risk factors. Resilience and self-care also are discussed. Information allows health care providers to apply the latest science to their daily practice.

The problem is, this course is WAY too expensive. Not trying to be mean to the AAP but I was shocked at the cost. It is about twice the cost of a standard AAP session.  For those who don't want to pay so much, you can find much of this information by googling the participants or on ACEs in Pediatrics... there are videos by Heather Forkey (very good for those interested in Foster Care and the other speakers) --- may take a little work -- these can be found for free.  It is good though if you are interested in networking with the other doctors in one place at one time.  I'll try to look around for some of the webinars.  On the resilience project AAP page from the 2014 conference there are several good videos -- also.

(This one though I think would be great - I have signed up but have not done the modules yet. I am not sure if you have to be a physician however.)

I also wondered if anyone has an in with California Audio Digest?  This is a place where many of us get our CME's.  When you complete an audio CME there is an evaluation. In that it asks what you would like to hear for future CME events and every time I complete one... I state that I want to hear these lectures on Audio Digest.   Maybe someone with some connections or others who listen to audio digest could request that these be there for future CME.  I have all access which means I can listen to CME from any field in medicine, not just pediatrics, so sometimes I listen to internal medicine, OB, FP, neurology etc and I request that these sessions be placed in other fields besides pediatrics also.  And they do this as I have listened to pediatricians on the FP section... Thanks a bunch
