New BONUS Transforming Trauma Episode 119: NARM Online Basics Training: A Guide to Our Accessible Trauma-Informed Training With Stefanie Klein

Most of us already know that complex trauma is a significant public health concern. With the Level 1 NARM Online Basics Training, helping professionals can play a vital role in delivering trauma-informed care to their community, even if they're not mental health providers.

On this episode of Transforming Trauma, Emily is joined by Stefanie Klein, LCSW, Faculty and Assistant Training Director at the NARM Training Institute, to preview the Level 1 NARM Online Basics Training (OBT), the live experiential-focused introductory series for helping professionals in the field of trauma. In addition to sharing subject matter highlights, personal insights, and practical information, Emily and Stefanie also discuss why NARM OBT is an excellent program for anyone engaged in a skilled, supportive role of folks dealing with trauma––from teachers, nurses, and spiritual counselors to executive coaches and pediatric dentists.

"We're all impacted by trauma, and we believe that NARM plays a significant role in impacting the lives of people who aren't accessing psychotherapy," explains Stefanie. It's for this reason that NARM makes its progressive psychoeducational program available not only to psychotherapists and social workers but also to other community-embedded professionals. "The idea that somebody who works at a school or a clinic can be trauma-informed in this NARM-specific way," Stefanie affirms, "is really inspiring."

When completed, participants of the NARM OBT professional certificate program will have a greater understanding of the Neuroaffective Relational Model for healing complex trauma and how they might extend their support in addressing the needs of those navigating the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). Module topics include:

  • NARM organizing principles
  • NARM adaptive survival styles
  • A more holistic way of understanding burn-out
  • C-PTSD and toxic shame
  • Reconnecting to the life force

"You really get to know these topics from the inside out," says Stefanie of NARM OBT's dynamic mix of didactic and experiential learning. Each of the four sessions is supported learning which allows participants to engage with the NARM framework for addressing attachment, relational, developmental, cultural, and intergenerational trauma in an embodied way. NARM OBT empowers helping professionals to identify trauma-based survival patterns of people in their care and provide radically profound trauma-informed support.
