Negative childhood experiences lead to adult dysfunction - Iowa

"Fifty-five percent of adult Iowans experience at least one instance of childhood abuse or household dysfunction before the age of 18, according to a new Iowa State University study.

“People care about kids and care about health,” said Clinton Gudmunson, an assistant professor in human development and family studies. “What makes this revolutionary is these are social things happening. We’re not talking about a medical model of disease as much as we are talking about a social model of disease.”

"The study, “Adverse childhood experiences in Iowa: A new way of understanding lifelong health,” is an ongoing evaluation of how negative childhood experiences lead to varying adult dysfunctions...."
