A three-day conference that started Tuesday in Helena is focusing on the lifelong impacts of traumatic experiences and the importance of understanding those experiences when helping young children and families.

The Great Beginnings, Great Families conference was organized by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services and brings together professionals from across the state who work to support young children.

Leslie Lee, a home visitation specialist with DPHHS and conference organizer, said the conference teaches best practices and links providers to other resources.

“I think what we try to do here is connect folks working with families and give them good quality information to serve the families better,” she said.
