Milford camp helps kids hurt by addiction [TheIntell.com]

Art GentileAt first glance, this weekend’s Camp Mariposa at Men-O-Lan retreat center in Milford appears to be like any other summer camp for kids. Mornings begin with chowing down at the mess hall, afternoons are spent zip-lining through green canopies and by night, s’mores are melting over the campfire.
But there’s something different about this camp. Here, children ages 9 to 12 also gather into groups and discuss the answers to questions like “what does it feel to be around someone on drugs or alcohol?” and “what does recovery mean?”

For the two dozen or so campers who gathered at Mariposa this weekend, the camp is more than just a youthful getaway—it’s a chance to escape from the stress of homes where addiction is present and acquire tools to navigate it once they return.
