Memorial for our COVID Trauma and Losses

Covid Memorial Day National Online Vigil w/Senator Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Greg Stanton

To heal, we must remember. We must mark our losses and recognize our grief and trauma.

Help us bear witness. This is a virtual memorial. Register on Facebook or on website MarkedByCOVID.com.

Join Marked By Covid for its annual vigil with Covid Memorial Day legislative champions Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Greg Stanton, and Representative Jim McGovern. Poetry by Leslé Honoré will be read by Marked By Covid activist Monica Allen.

More than 1.12 million people in the U.S. have died from SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus behind the Covid-19 pandemic, representing nearly 20% of total global deaths despite the US being only 4% of the global population.

Each death takes an incalculable toll on those left behind, and hundreds of people are still dying each day in the U.S. We must not grow numb to the massive loss of life we’ve endured, even as we face the harsh reality that Covid will be with us forever, in part because of systemic failings.

Creating permanent space for mourning, remembrance, and education is the first step in ensuring that we are better prepared for the next crisis.

The loved ones we've lost to Covid-19 and those severely harmed by the pandemic — people living with Long Covid, marginalized groups, and those grieving losses — deserve to be recognized by the federal government. Acknowledging the devastating impacts of Covid is universal, nonpartisan, and an avenue to unite the country. We cannot recover from the pandemic without taking measures to heal our nation’s grief and prevent this from ever happening again.
