Look Through Their Eyes - New Resource to address childhood trauma

The Zero to Three Baby Monitor has just announced a new resource produced by the Illinois Childhood Trauma Coalition.  "Responding to research showing that 42% of Illinois children age 0 to 17 experience some form of childhood trauma before they reach adulthood, the Illinois Childhood Trauma Coalition (ICTC) developed the Look Through Their Eyes campaign to raise awareness among parents and caregivers. It includes public service announcements and a website with resources about prevention, identification, and treatment of childhood trauma. Resources note what to look for at different ages – identifying unusual clinginess, tantrums that don’t stop within a few minutes, and aggressive behavior as possible symptoms of trauma for infants and toddlers. One of the most successful components of the project is the Stories series – short animated videos for children under age 5 who may have been exposed to violence. Each video has companion tutorials and a coloring book to help parents talk to their children about the traumatic event that happened. ICTC is a voluntary collaboration of more than 80 public, private, clinical, research, advocacy and educational institutions committed to applying a trauma lens to their efforts on behalf of families and children in the state."
