Learning How to Help Trauma Victims Heal

Tallahassee, FL - More than 300 people from various local organizations attended the third annual "Instilling Hope through Trauma-Informed Care" Conference.

The one-day seminar held Friday at TCC taught professionals and community members how to deal with victims of trauma, violence, and abuse.

Jennifer Barr, Co-facilitator of the Trauma-Informed Care Workgroup, says, "For example, if someone was in a really bad car accident, we want to be mindful that getting into the car with that person, or driving in the area that the accident occurred could be really stressful for them. Just being mindful of that and responding to them in a way that's supportive and understanding."

Experts say symptoms of trauma can include neglect, school violence, physical and sexual abuse, and domestic violence.
