On Sept. 29-30, learn how to move your community from conversation to action

Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 8.19.31 AMA unique and exciting opportunity for every person, organization or community interested in participating in building a trauma-informed U.S. takes place at the end of this month. It’s a chance to rub shoulders (virtually or in person) with innovators who have moved their communities from conversation to action.

“Building a Trauma-Informed Nation” takes place in Washington, DC, and is being webcast to open the presentations to those of you steeped in the movement as well as newcomers. Even if you can’t leave your home or office and only have one or two hours available on September 29 and 30, you can be part of this remarkable gathering of leaders in the trauma-informed movement.

Participation in the conference is free, and organized to give you as many options as possible to participate.

  • You can attend in person for all or parts of the conference.
  • You can watch by yourself or with a couple of other people.
  • You can join an “amplifier” site in or near your community.
  • You can create an amplifier site.

No matter how you participate, you’ll be able to text in comments or questions via a WebEx Chat box. If you’ve joined or created an amplifier site, you and others in your group can talk about the presentations in context of what’s happening—or not happening, as the case may be – in your own community.

All the options are described at the conference site. Those who set up amplifier sites can participate in both days, or for just one hour. It’s up to you.

The organizers think that you won’t want to miss the 45-minute plenary session that features Cure Violence Founder Dr. Gary Slutkin (recording will be available two hours after the half-hour presentation ends around 12:30 pm EST on Tuesday). Following Dr. Slutkin, Father Jeff Putthoff, former director of Hopeworks ‘N Camden, will present.

Dr. Nancy Hardt, founding member of Peace4Gainesville, Transformation Center Director Deb Delman, and Cure Violence Executive Director Lori Toscano also are presenting.

The panels following the plenary sessions are “Creating Trauma-Informed Communities” and “Trauma-Informed Justice Systems”, which take place on Sept. 29. “Trauma-Informed Approaches in Health Care” and “Trauma-Informed Approaches in Education” take place on Sept. 30. Click here to for the session times.

To register for the conference, go to https://www.blsmeetings.net/traumainformednation, and click on the option that works for you on the left side of the page. If you plan to attend the event in person, click on “REGISTER to participate in person.”

We hope that many of you will participate in this exciting opportunity for your organization or your community…or as an individual if you just want to learn something about this amazing national movement.

A group from the Washington, DC, Metro Area ACEs Connection group will be there with bells on. I hope to see you there or online!
