Babies aren’t born with a set of instructions, they note, which is why several people in Lake County are gearing up to establish a home where new moms can learn how to be good moms.

These people have the passion to do it, a role model in Missoula’s Mountain Home Montana, and research that shows it can make a huge difference in children’s lives. What they need now, for what they call “The Nest,” is a house.

Actually, they know the house they want – it’s a seven-bedroom home with a big garden in St. Ignatius that’s currently on the market. What they need is $225,000 to buy it.

To that end, The Nest – still a “work in progress,” according to executive director Jenifer Blumberg – held a well-attended fundraising luncheon at Kwa Taq Nuk Resort in Polson last week.

Blumberg, former director of DOVES, an organization that worked to prevent domestic and sexual violence in Lake County and on the Flathead Indian Reservation, and assist victims of those crimes, kept a relatively low profile during the event.
