Hi, Steve: It's probably not had more views because I haven't tweeted it out or featured it in the weekly newsletter. Now that I have a few more resources, we'll probably begin sending out daily digests in a couple of months.

I'm not sure that outrage is what will ever be the main response from this network, probably because almost everyone is working diligently on some piece of this issue and has realized that energy is better put toward solutions. I think outrage probably happens more often in support groups or in response to stories on news sites.

Also, apparently the bill mentioned in this story isn't really going anywhere; it's more an indication that in some states (17, I believe), spanking is still OK…that we as a country are still dealing with this. In our network, Robbyn Peters Bennett is producing a documentary about spanking that will be pretty powerful. She's posted some of the clips -- go to her profile page and you can find them.

I don't know that people on ACEs are happy and content; I'd characterize network members as incredibly committed, and working very hard, very diligently on solutions. Because I haven't had the resources to profile more of the members, awareness of their work and their commitment, as you point out, is a big gaping hole. But it's one I intend to fill in over the next few months. So, please stay tuned.

ACEsConnection is a community of practice, so personal support comes from people reaching out to each other through individual messaging. That makes this different from a support group. But there's some desire for that, in addition to what you expressed. A couple of people are talking about starting a "Buddy Bench" group, where people are just there for each other during hard times. We're figuring out the best way to organize that, because we want to make sure that people don't think it's a place for counseling or therapy.

And if you've been feeling suicidal for a long time, I hope that you find help soon from someone who is experienced in assisting people with similar thoughts. I'll send you more in a personal message.

You've done nothing to deserve being banned from ACEsConnection; I hope that I've cleared up a few things about what to expect from this network, and that you'll continue to hang in there as we have the resources to facilitate more engagement and conversation.

Cheers, Jane

I am wondering why this has not received more views and more comments here on Aces

Why the silence on this?

Where is the outrage that this could be even proposed?

I feel very discouraged by the lack of attention to this video.

Again I thank Elizabeth for posting it. But it almost brings me to tears that there have, as I write this, only been 7 views and it seems zero comments.

I don't participate much on Aces because in general I find the people too happy and content here, ie too accepting of the status quo in the USA. I appreciate that people here are trying to do some good and change some things, but it still seems that people are simply much too numb to how bad things really are. I don't see much expression of pain or people talking about how depressed they feel. Neither do I feel very personally supported here. It is painful for me to think of the word "friends" in fact, when very few people here seem to care about me or the fact that I have been feeling suicidal for a long time. Few people have ever written to me or commented about my writing. For me Aces is not an especially caring community, not for me personally. I am even afraid as I write this that I might get banned or censored, as I was banned from outofthefog.net for questioning a moderator/controller. So I will copy this post for my own records. I feel a great deal of respect for Jane, yet I feel disillusioned with some of what I see here on Aces.
