Kalamazoo County not yet able to say 'All the children are well' [MLive.com]

The Masai tribe of West Africa is known for their intelligence, fearsome strength, and praiseworthy nobility. When they meet one another, members say "Kasserina Engeri", which translates to English as, "How are the children"; the invariable reply is, "all the children are well".

Through this exchange the Masai affirm their shared responsibility to raise children in an environment of love, safety, and spiritual if not material, wealth.

Can we confidently say the same in Michigan or Kalamazoo County? Sadly, only some of the children are fine. Social and economic disparities exist in our city and county threaten the future of many of our children and, by reference, all our futures.
