January 19th CTIPP CAN Call - Trauma-Informed Initiatives in Baltimore and Maryland

Join us next Wednesday for two excellent CTIPP CAN presentations to begin our 2022 lineup.  Baltimore Councilman Zeke Cohen will discuss the work, started by the late Congressman Elijah Cummings, that is making the city of Baltimore trauma-informed. Claudia Remington will describe new trauma informed initiatives by the State of Maryland, including legislation that created a Commission to develop a comprehensive strategy to make the State trauma informed. We will also report on the first Building the Movement to Prevent Trauma and Foster Resilience Workshop Series, which drew over 700 participants. If you have not already signed up for the next seven sessions, you can do so for free at this link.

CTIPP team members will start the call with an overview of what is happening in DC and the plan for our work throughout the 2022 calendar year. Then we will dive into two wonderful presentations!

Councilmember Zeke Cohen will share about the events that led to the creation of the Elijah Cummings Healing City Act and the community movement, Healing City Baltimore. He will share about the work that Baltimore is doing as the first city to legislate Trauma Informed Care, through training of city agencies, the creation of a trauma-informed care task force, and a review of city policiesβ€”as well as the vital role that communities play in this work.

Claudia Remington will discuss Maryland's statewide efforts to prevent and mitigate ACEs under the Maryland Essentials for Childhood Initiative, including the membership of the alliance, goals, strategies, successes, challenges and lessons learned.  In particular, she'll highlight advocacy that resulted in the collection of ACEs data in the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, an ACE's Roundtable for the Maryland General Assembly, ACE-informed legislation (including the creation of a Trauma Informed Care Commission), an executive order on ACEs, among other successes.
After the presentations, there will be time for Q&A with our audience members. Please join us and share the call with those in your network who may be interested! All are welcome to attend.
Following the CTIPP CAN call, as always, will be the monthly Campaign Office Hour call for open-ended conversation, Q&A, and/or technical assistance. You can join for the whole hour or hop on at any time to ask your question, get an update, or anything else you need! Here are the Office Hour ground rules for more information.
As a reminder, we record and post our CTIPP CAN calls for folks who are unable to join the calls live, or for those who want to watch again! You can subscribe to our YouTube channel to receive updates when new videos are uploaded. Please feel free to share this information and any recordings with others who may be interested in the topic. And, as a reminder, if you haven't already done so, join the Trauma Campaign and invite others to do the same!
